From pre-Milan days, an early EP "The Comeback EP" (2001), this is maybe one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Torquil is so good at writing sentimental, yet brilliant soft indie songs. Words can't describe how much I love this band right now! I forgot how good some of their old stuff is! Elevator Love letter is such a class song! Stars-The Aspidistra Files Read more...
I had no idea Stars were releasing new material until the day of release, so this was a very nice little surprise. They really are an amazing band!!!! Here is the undoubted highlight of the EP, the lovely "14 Forever". They are one of the best live bands around, i feel privileged to have seen them in a 250 sized venue! If you like this then check out some of their old stuff, Set Yourself on Fire is one of the best albums of the 2000's! an abridged version of the huge review i had planned. top 5 artists of the weekend, as well as notable mentions, and "big misses" TOP 5 OF THE WEEKEND (In no particular order) 1. Jay-Z (Pyramid Stage: Saturday) Proved all his critics wrong, without the need for any special guests. Brilliant, there is a reason why he calls himself "God MC". If he's not the best rapper alive, he's very close. Annoyingly, the BBC online coverage cut off the opening video, but it can be watched here They also cut off pretty much anything political from the set, which was pretty annoying. here is wonderwall into 99 problems. immense
I Just Wanna Love U (Give It 2 Me) feat. Pharrell-Jay-Z 2. Vampire Weekend (Other Stage: Friday, John Peel Stage: Saturday) The best new band of the year, performed brilliantly both times, drawing a huge crowd on the Other Stage, and killing it on the John Peel. They are fantastic live, can't wait to see them at Leeds Fest and hopefully a UK Tour this autumn!! special band.
M79-Vampire Weekend Walcott (Insane Mix)-Vampire Weekend 3. Laura Marling (Park Stage: Sunday) Another of the best up and coming artists this year. She has one of the best voices in music, and amazingly she got every note spot on live. The lack of "Tap at My Window" and "New Romantic" were inconsequential, as she showed just how talented she is. I am hopeful for a new UK tour this autumn with a Sheffield date!
Ghosts-Laura Marling 4. Stars (John Peel Stage: Sunday) Its a sign of how good this band are, that they can be considered one of my highlights, even though i caught only half of their set (Marling clash). They are such a special band, deserving of much more credit than they get, and they are so good live. Torquil is so good with the crowd, and both him and Amy are brilliant live singers. They opened with Elevator Love Letter, a classic, moving onto Soft Revolution, which is simply stunning live. The BBC didnt cover their performance at all... Soft Revolution-Stars 5. Lupe Fiasco (Jazz World: Friday) Narrowly beating Frank Turner into 5th place, as i have said many times on this blog, Lupe Fiasco is brilliant. He opened rapping "The Coolest" over Justice's "Let There Be Light",(check previous posts for an mp3 of this mashup), awesome. The BBC has quite good coverage on their website, although the order is all wrong. He played mostly stuff off "The Cool" which is good, coz its better, Kick, Push, Daydreamin, Superstar, Go Go Gadget Flow were all quality.
stars are without doubt one of the best live bands ive seen.they killed glastonbury (even though i had to leave halfway through-laura marling clash). Read more...
