dizzee rascal, david byrne, fatboy slim?

A big collaboration, The BPA (Fatboy Slim aparently), Dizzee Rascal and David Byrne. Nice summer tune. Fatboy Slim is such a legend.
Toe Jam feat. Dizzee Rascal and David Byrne-The BPA
hilarious video

Well done to Dizzee who is UK number 1 for the first time ever with "Dance Wiv Me". He deserves it, although not really with that song. He was also in the live lounge last week, and he did a cover with Calvin Harris, he killed it.

the streets: 4th album sampler

The Hardest Way To Make An Easy Living was awful. Its time for Mike Skinner to deliver again. I am hopeful yet apprehensive as to whether the heights of OPM and AGDCFF can be reached. He upped a 4 minute sample with small clips from 4 songs on the new album. The first one is pretty meh, the middle 2 good and the 4th excellent. Late August for release probably.
the 4 tracks are
'The Escapist'
'The Way Of The Dodo' (appears to be some sort of climate change crusade!!!, so that wins me over to it slightly :D)
'The Sherry End'
'On The Flip Of A Coin'

The Streets-New Album Deep

have a look at Mike's myspace blog here, its pretty good

It's great that they keep releasing new music though, flux was only 8 months ago, and a weekend in the city only feb 2007, hopefully album 3 will be early next year. a-trak

this is amazing

from his myspace
When I was 13 I took my bar mitzvah money and bought myself some turntables and a mixer. I practiced for about 18 hours a day. Then I came out of my basement, packed my lunch and won a bunch of world championships. Joy! I formed a DJ crew called the Allies with Craze and friends. We toured the world for a while... I guess I've been touring for the last 11 years. Time flies.

In the late 90's my brother and I ran an indie hip hop label called Audio Research. Most of you now know my brother as the mustachioed half of Chromeo. But I digress. In 2004 Kanye West hired me as his official tour DJ and I've worked closely with him ever since, both on stage and off. Then last year Nick Catchdubs and I founded a new record label: Fool's Gold, dedicated to bringing you the crème de la crop in club music. I also produced a bunch of tracks for Kid Sister and did a string of remixes for various gentlefolk. Expect some more A-Trak releases this year and I foresee an album in ze pipeline. Now let's boogie woogie.

i unfortunately missed him at glasto in the dance village, but i managed to catch a bit of his bbc introducing set on friday night and it was so gooood! Here is the mp3

Glastonbury Highlights

an abridged version of the huge review i had planned. top 5 artists of the weekend, as well as notable mentions, and "big misses"
TOP 5 OF THE WEEKEND (In no particular order)
1. Jay-Z (Pyramid Stage: Saturday)

Proved all his critics wrong, without the need for any special guests. Brilliant, there is a reason why he calls himself "God MC". If he's not the best rapper alive, he's very close. Annoyingly, the BBC online coverage cut off the opening video, but it can be watched here
They also cut off pretty much anything political from the set, which was pretty annoying.
here is wonderwall into 99 problems. immense

I Just Wanna Love U (Give It 2 Me) feat. Pharrell-Jay-Z
2. Vampire Weekend (Other Stage: Friday, John Peel Stage: Saturday)

The best new band of the year, performed brilliantly both times, drawing a huge crowd on the Other Stage, and killing it on the John Peel. They are fantastic live, can't wait to see them at Leeds Fest and hopefully a UK Tour this autumn!! special band.

M79-Vampire Weekend
Walcott (Insane Mix)-Vampire Weekend
3. Laura Marling (Park Stage: Sunday)
Another of the best up and coming artists this year. She has one of the best voices in music, and amazingly she got every note spot on live. The lack of "Tap at My Window" and "New Romantic" were inconsequential, as she showed just how talented she is. I am hopeful for a new UK tour this autumn with a Sheffield date!

Ghosts-Laura Marling
4. Stars (John Peel Stage: Sunday)
Its a sign of how good this band are, that they can be considered one of my highlights, even though i caught only half of their set (Marling clash). They are such a special band, deserving of much more credit than they get, and they are so good live. Torquil is so good with the crowd, and both him and Amy are brilliant live singers. They opened with Elevator Love Letter, a classic, moving onto Soft Revolution, which is simply stunning live. The BBC didnt cover their performance at all...
Soft Revolution-Stars
5. Lupe Fiasco (Jazz World: Friday)

Narrowly beating Frank Turner into 5th place, as i have said many times on this blog, Lupe Fiasco is brilliant. He opened rapping "The Coolest" over Justice's "Let There Be Light",(check previous posts for an mp3 of this mashup), awesome. The BBC has quite good coverage on their website, although the order is all wrong. He played mostly stuff off "The Cool" which is good, coz its better, Kick, Push, Daydreamin, Superstar, Go Go Gadget Flow were all quality.

Go Go Gadget Flow-Lupe Fiasco
Other mentions:
Frank Turner-no song link
Molly's Chambers-Kings of Leon
Paris-Friendly Fires (great live, great new band)
Take Me Out-Franz Ferdinand
Creator-Santogold
Seasick Steve
Manu Chao
Tears Dry on Their Own-Amy Winehouse (started amazingly, ended horribly)
Leonard Cohen
Kids-MGMT (underwhelming, except this and Time to Pretend, both were amazing)
John Mayer
Neville Staple
Tapped feat. JME-Skream
Black and Gold-Sam Sparro

Big Misses
Wish I could have seen these
Fatboy Slim
A-Trak
Kid Sister
The Last Shadow Puppets (secret)

old skool monday #18

"Let's Stay Together" is a song by Al Green on his 1972 album of the same name. It reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and remained on the chart for 16 weeks. It also topped Billboard's R&B chart for nine weeks. The song later appeared on the soundtrack to Pulp Fiction. It was ranked the 60th greatest song of all time by Rolling Stone magazine on their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

estelle-no substitute love

I admit, i have a soft spot for Estelle. I think its great that a UK hip-hop artist can become such a huge worldwide name like she is now...Her new single blends old skool Estelle rapping over wicked beats, and the new incredibly smooth production and sampling that typified American Boy. Wyclef Jean produced this one, and apparently Kanye came up with the idea to sample "Faith". It works very well.

old skool monday #17

2 days late, pathetic i know, but i was still recovering from glastonbury! full review will be coming today with LOTS of nice links (this is real not an empty promise like i usually make on this blog...)
no real reason for picking this track, just that its a bit good, cheesy late 80s house music...
