kids gets the soulwax treatment

In my opinion, Kids is definitely one of the best songs of 2008. MGMT once again disappointed me live at Leeds, but Kids (and time to pretend) were miles better than the rest of their set. The legendary Soulwax have just remixed Kids, (along with The Chemical Brothers Hey boy Hey Girl-amazing remix), as expected its fucking sick.

intimacy

Woah woah woah, a week after it's release and this album has reignited my love for Bloc Party. As good as A Weekend In The City was, it was nowhere close to what Bloc Party are capable of. Intimacy reaches the highs of Silent Alarm, mixing classic Bloc Party lyrics with a more electronic sound (not quite Flux levels). Kele said this was his "break-up" album and this is evidenced throughout the album. Ares is pretty classic Kele lyrically, reminiscent of Helicopter in (surely?) anti-US/UK war attitudes. Mercury is alot better in the context of the album, although I am still pretty unsure what it's about lol. Halo and Biko are up there with Bloc Party's best, Biko potentially my favourite Bloc ever. If only the consistency of the first 4 songs had been maintained, then this would have been up there with Death Cab, Coldplay et all for album of the year. Trojan Horse and Zepherus are decent tunes, but nothing special. But the likes of Signs, One Month Off and Ion Square make up for it and it would be no surprise if this made my top 5/10 of the year.
Hopefully an Academy sized tour for the autumn! One Month Off sounded brilliant at Leeds, they were a big improvement on their 2007 performance.

Bill Clinton said:
"Everything I learned in my eight years as president, and in the work I have done since in America and across the globe, has convinced me that Barack Obama is the man for this job. He has a remarkable ability to inspire people, to raise our hopes and rally us to high purpose. He has the intelligence and curiosity every successful president needs."
Hilary Clinton said:
"Whether you voted for me, or you voted for Barack, the time is now to unite as a single party with a single purpose. We are on the same team, and none of us can afford to sit on the sidelines. This is a fight for the future. And it's a fight we must win together."
Al Gore said:
"His experience has also given him genuine respect for different views and humility, in the face of complex realities that cannot be squeezed into the narrow compartments of ideology.

His experience has taught him something that career politicians often overlook: that inconvenient truths must be acknowledged if we are to have wise governance."

Barack Obama said:

"We meet at one of those defining moments - a moment when our nation is at war, our economy is in turmoil, and the American promise has been threatened once more."

"Tonight, I say to the American people, to Democrats and Republicans and Independents across this great land - enough! This moment - this election - is our chance to keep, in the 21st century, the American promise alive. Because next week, in Minnesota, the same party that brought you two terms of George Bush and Dick Cheney will ask this country for a third. And we are here because we love this country too much to let the next four years look like the last eight. On November 4th, we must stand up and say: "Eight is enough.""

and much more....
If only europe could vote in this election haha...

ridiculously exicting news: kanye to tour the uk in november

from ents 24:
Kanye West, hip-hop luminary and producer extraordinaire, is set to invigorate UK shores with a five-date arena tour this November.

Currently one of the biggest names in showbiz, Kanye West kicks off his UK tour at London's O2 Arena on November 12, trailed by gigs at Newcastle's Metro Radio Arena, Birmingham's National Exhibition Centre, Glasgow's SECC and Manchester's MEN Arena.

ahhhhhhhh i am so exicted. i am stupidly broke right now, but hopefully there will be tickets left next week. i want to see him again so badly! february 2006 was legendary, gutted i missed out on last years graduation tour.
hope its glow in the dark!!!

big news: michelle rodriguez to return to lost

very controversial decision from darlton, ana-lucia will return for one episode (ep2 probs) in season 5 of lost. AL was largely hated by fans, but i thought she was a brilliant character, who I would have loved to have seen interact with Ben/Juliet/the freighties. Her death occurred in episode 18 of season 2 "two for the road" and was one of the most shocking moments in lost ever for me, from one of the best episodes.

read the full story and theories etc here...

in other news, sayid and hurley have apparently been seen filming together, with hurley in a nightgown, follow on from the finale last year?

old skool monday #20

I really need to get these on time...20th old skool monday :D. I was shocked that I hadn't included a Nirvana song yet, and I opted for In Bloom, as DPT played a (pretty bad) cover at Leeds this weekend, and it reminded me just how good the original is.

""In Bloom" is a song by the American grunge band Nirvana. Written by frontman Kurt Cobain, the song addresses people outside of the underground music community who did not understand the band's message.

Nirvana made its first music video for an early version of "In Bloom" in 1990, however the song did not appear on a commercial release until the release of the group's second album, Nevermind, in 1991. "In Bloom" became the fourth and final single from the album late in 1992. It was accompanied by a music video which parodied musical performances of 1960s variety shows.

Like many Nirvana songs, "In Bloom" shifts back and forth between quiet verses to loud chorus. The rhythm section of Novoselic and Grohl kept its parts simple; Grohl stated it was "an unspoken rule" to avoid unnecessary drum fills, while Novoselic said he felt his role was about "serving the song". During the choruses, vocalist Cobain and drummer Grohl harmonize while singing "He's the one/Who likes all our pretty songs/And he likes to sing along/And he likes to shoot his gun/But he knows not what it means". The song's intro reappears at the end of each chorus.

Cobain's lyrics address the people outside of the underground music scene that began showing up at Nirvana shows after the release of the group's debut album Bleach. Nirvana biographer Michael Azerrad wrote, "But remarkably, [the song's lyrics] translated even better to the mass popularity the band enjoyed." Regarding the song's chorus, Azerrad commented, "The brilliant irony is that the tune is so catchy that millions of people actually do sing along to it.""

old skool monday #19

the first since i've been back...leeds themed...
""Killing in the Name" (often misnamed, due to the lyrics, as "Killing in the Name Of") was the first single released by Rage Against the Machine from their self-titled album, and is arguably the band's signature song. On 31 August 1999, it was reissued with one previously unreleased track, "Darkness of Greed", together with the track "Clear the Lane" which was the original B-Side on the white only vinyl first release of the single. The album's cover pictured Thích Quảng Đức, a Vietnamese Buddhist monk, burning himself to death in Saigon in 1963 in protest of the murder of Buddhists by Prime Minister Ngô Đình Diệm's regime."

Cant wait for leeds :D

lost season 5 news/comic-con round up

what did we learn from comic-con?
  • Richard Alpert will be prominent in season 5 :D
  • Jin will be back in season 5, in one form or another. rumour has it the first scene filmed was a Jin-Jack scene. Could he be appearing to Jack as a ghost a la Claire, Charlie, Eko, Christian have done to the O6? Does not necessarily mean hes dead.
  • The whole concept of FF's and FB's are being revolutionized again, apparently episodes will span multiple time periods and perspectives. I am so excited about this. The move from solely FB's to both FB's and FF's was the best idea Darlton ever had, exactly what the show needed. Hopefully this change will see a similar effect.
  • We will definately see Rousseasu's back-story somehow. We have been told this for the last 3 seasons.....
  • Freighters stories will be told in more detail, they would have been in s4 had it not been for the writers strike.
  • Faraday is most probably alive
  • Faraday's notebook will be very very very important in season 5. Remember "desmond Hume will be my constant", and the Orchid stuff in there....
  • The Dharma Initiative are very much still alive, and functioning in the "real world". We will learn alot more about them in season 5 and they will play a crucial role.
  • THE TITLE OF THE FIRST EPISODE HAS BEEN REVEALED, 5 MONTHS BEFORE IT WILL BE SHOWN!!!="BECAUSE YOU LEFT"
