goldfrapp-seventh tree

This album is pretty stunning, alot better than supernature. Alison Goldfrapp is extra talented. A&E is quite possibly my favourite single of the year so far. I strongly advise buying this album.

Radio Heart

The second single, and second best song, off of the Futureheads 3rd album "This is not the World". Album number 3 reminds me of their debut, in that it promises so much but ultimately delivers little. Clearly The Futureheads are capable of making great music, but consistency is frustratingly lacking. The best 2 songs on the album are by far, The Beginning of the Twist and Radio Heart, the first 2 singles. Here they are:

for some reason wikipedia doesnt have an entry about the third single from the critically aclaimed Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.
so i looked on songmeanings.com for some interpretations of this song. i thought this was a nice quote:
from "absolutebap":
"this song is so beauitful. the true test of a good song is if it makes you feel an emotion. by listening to this song, even if you had NEVER been through the emotions lauryn is singing about, you can feel her pain and her hurt. she loves this man so much but it just is hurts to much to be with him."
For anyone unfamiliar with her lyrical talent, she co-wrote Kanye Wests 'All Falls Down', so give this a try.
Ex-Factor-Lauryn Hill

its a shame that Lauryn Hill has gone off the rails a bit recently.
as Kanye said
"Lauryn Hill said her heart was in Zion
I wish her heart still was in rhymin"

The reason why i like it is because of that piano loop, ah i love piano loops. High Contrast did a really good remix.

because its Kanye and Pharell

Madonna shouldn't be making music at her age, should she? especially not when the album cover looks like that. the whole album has leaked now but i couldnt be arsed to download it all so i got 2 of the tracks im most interested in, the one with kanye and one of the pharell productions that has been hyped.
Give it to me has typical high quality Pharell production, but Madonnas singing and the lyrics dont really add anything.
The beat goes on is produced by Kanye/Pharell so the beat is equally good. This song is actually good, Pharells backing vocals and Kanyes rap add to its value alot.

Give it 2 me-Madonna

ive also been listening to Vampire Weekends session for Colin Murray, amazing!

"No Diggity" is a 1996 song by American R&B group BLACKstreet featuring Dr. Dre. It reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #9 in the UK. It ranked at #91 on Rolling Stone and MTV: 100 Greatest Pop Songs. It has sold 1.6 million copies in 1996. It won the 1998 Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals and was nominated for Best R&B Song.

Between BLACKstreet's sung verses are rap verses performed by Dre, Teddy Riley and Queen Pen, in that order, as well as backing vocals from Shaquana Elam. The song's melody is lifted from the beginning of "Grandma's Hands" by R&B hitmaker Bill Withers."

yeah its amazing

its not music or tv but...

...if you live in London, dont vote fucking Boris Johnson.
Boris was in the Guardian Weekend Q&A this weekend, but instead of giving interesting answers, half of them just treated the interview as a key part of his campaign, citing the trait he most deplores in others as "the arrogant waste of London taxpayers money". I also loved the answer to "what would your super power be?"="super-freeze ability to cool down the planet. say goodbye to global warming gloom" he clearly doesnt understand the problem in any depth (as admittedly lots of people dont-but a potential mayor of London should!). Climate change is something Ken Livingstone is extremely strong on. Its well worth a read
Here are just a few of the lovely views the supposedly harmless bumbling old fool off Have I Got News For You has:
On Gay Marriage: "if gay marriage was OK - and I was uncertain on the issue - then I saw no reason in principle why a union should not be consecrated between three men, as well as two men, or indeed three men and a dog."
On Liverpudlians: "deeply unattractive psyche", and at the Hillsborough disaster, "drunken fans at the back of the crowd who mindlessly tried to fight their way into the ground"
On Papua New Guinea: "Papua New Guinea-style orgies of cannibalism and chief-killing"
On Jamie Oliver: "I say let people eat what they like. Why shouldn't they push pies through the railings?" at the same conference David Cameron lauded his campaign as "social responsibility in action"
On Portsmouth: "one of the most depressed towns in Southern England, a place that is arguably too full of drugs, obesity, underachievement and Labour MPs"
On Tony Blairs visits to the 3rd world: "the tribal warriors will all break out in watermelon smiles to see the big white chief"
and finally to the BBC Asian Network
I'm down with the ethnics. You can't out-ethnic me. My children are a quarter Indian, so put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Ken Livingstone transport policies are second to none, and he promises to "Take over Tube contracts from Metronet, improve trains, invest more in cycling and walking, expand police teams, 24-hour Freedom pass, 500 more hybrid buses by 2010" where Boris' main transport investment would be large increases in policing.

Dont let Boris Johnson in, vote Ken!

cajun dance party

this colourful life
I do really like CDP, they are by no means groundbreaking, but they make nice indie music. Their first (of 2 this year) album has just leaked(released April 28th) and its pretty good. Many improvements have been made on the demos, and its overall a good debut. Here are some highlights...
Amylase-one of the best singles of last year I think, what a great song
Time falls
No Joanna-my favourite on the album

if you like them-buy them!
i regret not watching them at Leeds Fest or Plug last year. They have announced a few tour dates, and im pretty sure they will be playing quite a few festivals, so ill probs see them then.

skins episode 10 roundup

funeral
it was brilliant, one of the best episodes of skins. yeah it was depressing but so are some aspects of life, shit happens, people die. They rounded up the whole 2 series very very well. The only thing i didnt like was Anwar going to London with Maxxie and James. Anwar, throughout the 2 series has been portrayed as quite a funny guy, but a bit of a pathetic character and clearly a shit friend to Maxxie, why would Maxxie want Anwar going to London to live with him and his new bf? doesnt make sense to me, but the rest of the stroylines (Tony-Michelle-Sid mainly) were tied up pretty well, it didnt matter to me that we didnt find out whether Sid and Cassie found each other in New York. The funeral scene was so well done and very moving. Someone put it on youtube, im not ashamed to say i watched it again...here it is...

+ sketch was in it, and she might be in next series! i hope so anyways.
once again the music in this episode was beyond special. Including Elliot Smith, the White Stripes and Girls Aloud(!), here is my personal favourite, by the truly amazing (next Arcade Fire) MGMT.
MGMT-Time to Pretend (played in the last scene)
a nice end as well, setting up series 3.

Falling out of reach

So Guillemots were never gonna match "Through the Windowpane" (which tbf is pretty amazing), with their second album Red. I definately like it, although it lacks the originality and sheer crazy beauty of TTWP. It has some great songs on though. Falling out of reach is a lovely acoustic number (and their second single from this album), kriss kross is the bold album opener, and get over it was the first single. All 3 tracks are pretty dam good.

old skool monday #6

late again
"
Poprocks & Coke" is a song by the band Green Day from their International Superhits! album. It was one of the two new songs on the album. It was written by Billie Joe Armstrong .The title of the song is most likely related to the false urban legend about Pop Rocks (if you ate them and drank Coke at the same time your stomach would explode). Others think that it has to do with direct references to drugs, the poprocks being a reference to a methamphetamines mixture, and coke being a direct reference to cocaine. The lyrics talking about how he would go and do anything for the object/person could mean he was addicted to the drug, or person, being a stalker perhaps. Another possibility is that the name has nothing to do with the content, and the song has to do with Billie Joe's wife and his love for her"

No real reason, its just a great song.

skins episode 9/10

to be honest, i didnt really like the most recent episode, cassie centric, it didnt really address the issues facing Cassie. It just confirmed how annoying and pathetic Sid is. Chris' death was done pretty well though, but that bit in New York was pretty random. As usual, the trailer for the next episode (which may as well be the last ever episode) is very very good. Episode 9 featured at least 2 very good songs, Skins music is on the whole amazing.
Adele-Hometown Glory (this was a single before the shocker Chasing Pavements-its much better)
LCD Soundsystem-New York I Love you

here are various promos and sneak peeks, any Green Wing fan will recognise DR Alan Statham! as Chris' dad. The actor was also in Spaced...These are all pretty good, i advise watching.

old skool monday #5

Because its one of the best songs ever written, and as they are headlining Glastonbury, its nice to have something glasto themed.

"Bitter Sweet Symphony" is a song by the British alternative rock band The Verve, and is the lead track on their third album Urban Hymns (1997). It was released on June 16, 1997 as the first single from the album, charting at #2 on the UK Singles Chart, having been beaten to the #1 spot by "I'll Be Missing You" by Puff Daddy, Faith Evans and 112. The single was released in the U.S. in early 1998. The song also became infamous for the legal controversy surrounding its use of an orchestral sample as its hook. Rolling Stone ranked "Bitter Sweet Symphony" as the 382nd best song of all time.[1] In May 2007, NME magazine placed "Bitter Sweet Symphony" at number 18 in its list of the "50 Greatest Indie Anthems Ever."[2] In September 2007, Q published a list of "Top 10 Tracks" as selected via a poll of 50 songwriters; "Bitter Sweet Symphony" is included (the list is presented alphabetically instead of being ranked)."

doctor who and torchwood

Torchwood
The finale was on on friday, and it was a great episode. Captain John came back to cause havoc for Jack and the team, but it turned out Gray (Jacks long lost brother) was behind it. Believable? hmmm. Anyway the story was good, and surprisingly enough 2 of the team died! Owen (for good this time) and Tosh were killed off. the best 2 to kill, if they were gonna kill any. The only thing Tosh seemed to do was pine after Owen, and the only thing Owen seemed to do was moan about being dead. Looking forward to series 3, which will take a bigger role next year, as Dr Who is not on. I may try and watch series 1 in between times.

Doctor Who
Much more importantly, Dr Who is back!! I thought it was a quality episode, much better than the chrimbo special. Catherine Tate was really good as Donna, much less annoying than she was in the christmas special 2006, she is actually a pretty good actress, and its going to be good having a companion who isnt pining after the Doctor all the time! and, to pretty much everyones surprise, Rose appeared! it was widely known she was coming back this series, but it was thought it would only be later on. We last saw her in a parallel universe, so what is she doing on normal earth. hmmm. its very exciting. I am such a dr Who geek, but i dont care, it is quality.

Both Dr Who and torchwood can be seen on the iplayer still

skins episode 9

sneak peeks and trailers as usual. its cassies episode, maybe we will get some insight into why she has been such a bitch this series. its about time they had some maxxie/sketch/anwar storylines! nothing has happened there since episode 4. we have seen a little too much of sid/tony/michelle/cassie storyline. but there sonly one episode left, and i have heard that 2 main characters die :s i know who one is, and i have an idea who the other one is. anyways...

late :(
"im old school like happy shopper"
this song is soooo good. i wanted a leeds related one, dizzee is playing main stage, and it was on skins yesterday, so fix up was a perfect fit.

""Fix Up, Look Sharp" is the second single from British rapper Dizzee Rascal and the second from his debut album Boy in Da Corner. The single became his second top forty hit and his first to peak inside the top twenty. "Fix Up, Look Sharp" peaked at number seventeen and spent three weeks inside the top forty and five inside the top seventy five. It was featured in the hit documentary Rize. The song heavily samples the main beat and vocals from "The Big Beat" by rock musician Billy Squier."

very good so far! i want to see so many of the bands there! most exciting for me are vampire weekend, MGMT, conor oberst (bright eyes)!!, feeder, and ratm (im not exactly into them, but im sure theyll be amazing). some of the order is a bit questionable, tenacious d above slipknot? conor oberst sandwiched between pendulum and the cribs? ah well, i cant complain, except for the lack of death cab! only hope is for carling stage headline now!
